Yeah, That's It. Jealousy.

Donald Trump produced about half a video tweet (best I can describe it) for Miley Circus, who is apparently staying at one of his properties.

I'd be content to just least this alone. Pop culture doesn't matter to me very much at all. Trump says: "Miley, don't let them get you down. They're all jealous."

I'm not even sure how jealousy factors into this.

It's just a pop culture fallacy. If you think a performer had a meltdown (or ritual descent into former Disney princess sluthood) you're jealous somehow. And if you disagree with somebody, you obviously hate them. What, you can't factor apathy into the equation?

Hopefully after this, which I will make an installment in my "Two Minutes Hate" series, I can get back to my apathetic position on Miley Circus. Yes, I deliberately misspelled it. Because I don't care. Also because I typo'ed her name and realized adding a "c" would make it circus, which is way cooler.

Two Minutes Hate: Paula Deen Said the "N-word" Years Ago

I think John Oliver can explain it better than I can:

Yeah. She's a southern woman in her 70's. I'd be more surprised if she'd never said it at all in her entire life.

I'm not a fan of that word. I might use it twice in a 15 year period.

But once again, it's got people worked up, and 24 hour "news" networks don't have to work to find content while they can repeat this over and over again. Isn't two minutes hate great?

Two Minutes Hate- Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Hates Fat Chicks- And Why It Shouldn't Matter

This was supposed to be the inaugural edition of Two Minutes Hate, but it got stuck in draft and overtaken by a couple other posts.

I was browsing Facebook a few weeks ago, and saw below, which is something I never would have discovered on my own.

My first thought was "Wow, Ghost Hunter dude sure is mad about this." My second thought was "Why should anyone care?"

Those who have read Orwell's 1984 should be familiar  with the "Two Minutes Hate". From Wikipedia:

Within the book, the purpose of the Hate is said to satisfy the citizens' subdued feelings of angst and hatred from leading such a wretched, controlled existence. By re-directing these subconscious feelings away from the Oceanian government and toward external enemies (which likely do not even exist), the Party minimizes subversive thought and behavior.
I see a lot of "Two Minutes Hate" in society, and it seems to satisfy the need of some people to lash out at an object as they redirect their own frustrations from a perceived lack of control over their own lives. Others seem to do it as a form of parroting, because they're conditioned. Still others just love to gossip, and Two Minutes Hate is an easy way to get their fix.

Let's look at this objectively. The CEO of a pretentious, overpriced mall clothing outlet made some comments that he doesn't want fat chicks wearing his clothes. OK. That's something called his opinion. Other than verbally, does he stop them? Now, if he hired bouncers to throw fat chicks out of his stores, now we're entering territory that should seriously scare people.

I have an easy solution to this one: don't buy Abercrombie and Fitch clothing. I also put my money where my mouth is. I've never bought their clothing. I have nothing to be mad about. I'm overweight, he doesn't want me as a customer, I don't want to be his customer, and the free market reigns!

I don't quite get the mentality. Is it that whole "I can't have it, therefore I want it more"? Do fat chicks suddenly desire overpriced Abercrombie and Fitch clothing because the CEO doesn't want to sell it to them? It's like that South Park episode, "Cartmanland". Cartman makes a big deal out of "Kyle can't come!", and local businesses think it's the marketing of the century. "Welcome to our restaurant. YOU CAN'T EAT HERE!"

It's not like there aren't plenty of overpriced, pretentious clothing stores in the mall you could choose from besides Abercrombie and Fitch. So, fellow Oceanians, go forth and buy from one of them.

Two Minutes Hate: Conservative Edition

I promise, I'll get the post where I explain what "Two Minutes Hate" is up soon. Just needs so more wordsmithing.

Lest you think I plan to only pick on people who are probably categorized on the left of the spectrum, you're wrong. Conservatives are just as capable of a good Two Minutes Hate as anybody. (And I am neither a conservative nor a liberal).

So some rapper, (Lil Wayne) stepped on an American flag in a music video. Lots of my conservative friends are really pissed off about this. I could barely be bothered to look the guy's name up for this, but I realized Mark Dice probably had a commentary on it, so I'll let him explain:

He spends a lot of time commenting on these rappers and other pop culture "celebrities" that I otherwise ignore because they don't matter to me. I don't care what they say, and what they do. I don't listen to their music, I don't buy their products, I don't listen to radio stations they're likely to be on, I don't watch MTV, etc.

As for me and why I'm not going to "Two Minutes Hate" on this one, it's because it doesn't matter. I pay no attention to Tiny Wayne or Little Wayne or whatever he calls himself (can't be bothered to look further up this post). I wouldn't even know about this issue if most of my "conservative" friends on Facebook hadn't been pissed off about this all day.

Seriously, why do any of you act surprised when a pop culture celebrity does something like this? What in his character or the character of the media companies he runs with would cause you to be surprised about this? I wrote a blog post back in 2008 addressing this topic. You should read it. Seriously, Google Analytics says nobody has ever read this post. I worked so hard.

Two Minutes Hate: Red Robin Edition

I'm thinking of a new feature I'll call "Two Minutes Hate". I already have the explaination written in a draft I haven't posted yet.

So, Red Robin apparently has a commercial where they compare vegetarianism to a teenager girl going through a phase. Cool!

So naturally, vegetarians, who make up approximately 5% of the population, are pissed off.

Like all Two Minutes Hate, I'm sure this will die down and be forgotten when the next Two Minutes Hate comes around.

My commentary: I obviously have nothing against vegetarians and vegetarianism. But damn, these people are capable of some seriously pious behavior. They also have little sense of humor when it comes to their pious and holy lifestyle, as this installment of Two Minutes Hate shows.

I've never eated at Red Robin. Might have to try it.
