I just read an interesting article linked from slashdot about Macbook Pro batteries swelling. Macfixit says that batteries are being replaced by Apple on an individual basis.
I am glad in a way to see that Apple is not quite as perfect as it's made out to be, but on the other hand I'm not that far from wanting to switch to it myself. I am growing very tired of Windows. Uninstalling the Office 2007 Beta has left me with a crippled Office configuration. I can run Front Page, but that's about it. I had Office 2003 and XP on the laptop, but the main Office programs no longer work and at least Office 2003 won't reinstall in a working state. I think at this point I can either spend weeks trying to fix the registry (a task I would wish on no one) or I can stick the manufacturer CD's back in and reinstall the operating system, a task that I am frankly getting sick of. I can't tell you how many times I've had to reinstall Windows in the last 10 years. At least Windows XP will run for 6 months to 1 year between reinstalls, at least on my home systems.
I will attempt to chronicle my journey away from Windows for anyone interested. Hopefully I can offer advice for those of you who would like to switch to an open source OS such as Linux.
By the way, after 2 weeks of struggling with it, I now have SuSE Linux 10.1 working on my wireless network.
