Jay Adams on Writing

I came across the Nouthetic Counseling blog yesterday. Dr. Jay Adams put up two paragraphs of advice for anybody who wants to write “when I’m in the mood” but never finds that mood. His advice is exactly what I’ve heard in other places, but is always inspirational: just start doing it. Find a reason why you have to write. Newspaper columnists and professional bloggers are writing because that’s how they earn an income. Dr. Adams writes because he wants to minister to people. I write because… I’m not sure yet. I enjoy it, and would love to be able to supplement my income, help people, and perhaps be a thought leader in some areas, but perhaps I need to write a mission statement for my blogging by now.
