We Just Need The Right People...

I have long since checked out of the left/right political paradigm. I'm not a Republicrat, and I'm not a Demonican. I barely even vote anymore.

Something I often hear people say is "Our system would work fine if we could just get the right people in."

No, it wouldn't. Let's run with that thought experiment for a while. Lets say somehow the two parties get their act together and run the "right man" for President. And he somehow wins the election. He's only got eight years tops if he wins the second election. Then he's gone. And we're back to the same situation we're in now.

Or lets say since he's so good, we somehow allow him to serve as President for life. Sooner or later, he'll die or get old and sick of the crap and retire. Then what?

We don't need a system that depends on the "right person" or "right people". We need a system that allows for the flawed nature of the people within it, with the proper accountability and checks and balances to keep them in step and keep them from causing damage.

People tend to put other people on pedastols. And that is wrong. Just because somebody is in a position to project an air of authority does not make that person wiser and smarter than anybody else. And yet that happens all the time.

People also tend to trust those put on pedastols to be able to solve their problems. Yet it rarely happens.

Solve your own problems. Lead yourself. Do your own thinking. Don't leave it up to these psychopath politicians to do it for you. They'll be more than happy to.

H.L. Menken is credited with the phrase "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard." And if you leave responsibility for your own life up to someone else, you certainly will get it good and hard.
